Motorola MVME177 Board
The MVME177, a single-board computer (SBC), was the last system from Motorola to implement a 68000
family CPU, in this case the 68060. The MVME177 itself is a single-height 6U VME
board. Two mezzanine boards may be stacked to provide up to 256MB of onboard
RAM. The main board and a single mezzanine board together take one slot. The
stacked configuration requires two VMEboard slots. The external I/O was
implemented via the P2-VME connector at the back of the board. Several breakouts
were available, Motorola's 712 boards were the
most widely used ones.
CPU
- 68060 at 50MHz or 60MHz, including a FPU and a MMU
Cache
Chipset
- Intel i82596CA 10Mb Ethernet
- NCR 53C710 Fast-narrow SE SCSI controller
- 8-bit bidirectional parallel interface provided by PCCchip2
- CD2401 provides four serial channels
- 128KB of 32-bit wide static RAM, with 8, 16 and 32 bit addressing, optional battery backup
- DS1643/MK48T08 RAM and clock chip
- PCCchip2 ASIC (provides interface to aforementioned I/O-chips)
- two 44-pin PLCC/CLCC EPROM sockets for SGS-Thompson M27C4002 (256K x 16) or AMD 27C4096 type EPROMs.
- four 28F008SA flash memory devices provide 4MB of onboard ROM. Lower 2MB can be overlaid with 1MB EPROM.
Memory
- Proprietary daughter boards (mezzanine)
- Up to 256MB using one or two ECC modules.
VME
- VMEchip2 ASIC provides VME interface
- The VME-I/O is implemented via the P1 connector
Misc
- 8 Status LEDs (FAIL, STAT, RUN, SCON, LAN, 12V, SCSI, VME)
- 2 switches (RESET and ABORT).
Operating Systems
- OpenBSD/mvme68k
- NetBSD/mvme68k
- Motorola System V/68 Unix R3 V8
